David Brewster
Sir David Brewster KH PRSE FRS FSA Scot FSSA MICE is an English scientist, inventor, author and academic administrator. In science, he is best known for his experimental work in physical optics, primarily interested in the study of the polarization of light and including the discovery of the Brewster angle. He studied the birefringence of compressed crystals and discovered photoelasticity, thus creating the field of optical mineralogy. For this work, William Whewell has nicknamed him "the father of modern experimental optics" and "Johannes Kepler of optics". A pioneer in photography, Brewster invented the innovative stereoscopic telescope, which he called the "lenticular stereoscope" and became the first portable 3D viewing device. He also invented binocular cameras, two types of polarizers, polygonal lenses, floodlights, and kaleidoscope.
