Giovanni "Gianni" Rivera is an Italian politician and former football player who played in the midfield. In his playing career, he was mainly used as an attacking midfielder. Nicknamed the Italian "Golden Boy" by the media, he played most of his club career with the Italian football team A.C. Milan, having started his career with local club Alessandria in 1959. After joining Milan in 1960, he had an extremely successful career in national and European football, winning among others three Serie A trophies and two European trophies, and also captain of the team for 12 seasons. Internationally, he represented Italy 60 times from 1962 to 1974, scored 14 goals and participated in four World Cups. Rivera, however, is remembered by everyone for scoring the decisive goal in Italy's 4–3 overtime victory over West Germany in the 1970 World Cup semi-finals, leading the team in the final, losing just 4-1 to Brazil. .
