J. L. Mackie
John Leslie Mackie is an Australian philosopher. He made important contributions to religious philosophy, metaphysics, and linguistic philosophy, and is perhaps best known for his ethical view of ethics, especially the defense of moral skepticism. He wrote six books. His best known, Ethics: invented good and evil, begins by boldly declaring: "There is no objective value". It is argued that because this ethic must be invented rather than discovered. After publishing The Miracle of Theism: Arguments For and Against the Existence of God, it was published after publishing The Miracle of Theism: Arguments for and Against the Existence of God, called "a tour schedule" in philosophy contemporary analytics. Many consider Mackie to be one of the best defenders of philosophical atheism. In the 1980s, Time magazine called him "today's greatest atheist philosopher," and he frequently debated Christian philosophers such as Richard Swinburne and Alvin Plantinga.
