Ángel Javier Velásquez Quesquén is a Peruvian lawyer and politician. As a prominent member of the Peru Aprista Party, he served in the National Assembly from 2001 to 2019, before that from 1995 to 2000. During Alan García's second presidency, Velásquez was sworn in as prime minister. Peru's third general in government, succeeding Yehude Simon in 2009. He resigned in 2010 with the intention of running for president of the Peruvian Aprist Party later that year. Although he was not selected as a candidate, he was part of Mercedes Araoz's presidential ticket in which he was the first running mate until she stepped down from the elections in January 2011. In 2016, he was re-elected for a fifth term in Congress. , representing the Lambayeque region as part of the Popularity Coalition comprising APRA and PPC.
