Margaret Munnerlyn Mitchell is an American novelist and journalist. Mitchell wrote only one novel, published all her life, the American Civil War, Gone with the Wind, for which she won the National Book Award for Best Novel of 1936 and Pulitzer Prize for Fiction Book in 1937. In recent years following her death, a collection of Mitchell's childhood works and a short story she wrote as a teenager, titled Lost Laysen, has been published. A collection of articles written by Mitchell for the Atlanta Journal has been reprinted in book form.
