Miep Gies
The H Treaty "Miep" Gies, was one of the Dutch citizens who hid Anne Frank, her family and four other Dutch Jews from the Nazis in an annex building above Otto Frank's business premises in The War II. Born an Austrian, but in 1920, when she was only 11 years old, she was adopted by a Dutch family with whom she was attached. Although she initially stayed for only 6 months, this period was extended to a year due to poor health, after which the Gies chose to stay with them, living the rest of her life in the Netherlands. She died in 2010, at the age of 100 years old. In 1933, Gies began working for Otto Frank, a Jewish businessman whose family moved from Germany to the Netherlands in the hope of helping his family escape Nazi persecution. She became a close and trusted friend of the Frank family and a great supporter for them during their two years in hiding.
