Peter Kuzmich Kozlov was a Russian and Soviet explorer and traveler who continued Nikolai Przhevalsky's studies in Mongolia and Tibet. Despite being prepared for a military career by his parents, Kozlov chose to join Nikolai Przhevalsky's expedition. After the death of his mentor, Kozlov continued to travel to Asia with his successors, Pevtsov and Roborovsky. In 1895 he took over general command of the ailing Roborovsky expedition. From 1899 to 1901, he discovered and later described in a book on the upper Yellow, Yangtze and Mekong rivers, where he was awarded the Medal of Constantine in 1902. During the first decade of the 20th century, when the Great Game was reached. At the peak, Kozlov competed with Sven Hedin and Aurel Stein as principal researcher in Xinjiang. Although he had good relations with Hedin and other foreign explorers, the British government, represented by George Macartney, followed his activities across Central Asia.
