Stasys Lozoraitis was a famous Lithuanian diplomat and politician who served as Lithuania's Foreign Minister from 1934 to 1938. After Lithuania's independence in June 1940, Lozoraitis headed the Lithuanian foreign office from 1940 until his death in 1983. Most Western countries do not. recognized the Soviet occupation and continued to recognize the independent Lithuanian corps and envoys, thus maintaining Lithuania's legal continuity. Lozoraitis is the son of Motiejus Lozoraitis, a lawyer, Lithuanian national innovation activist and contributor to Varpas. In 1923 he was appointed to the Lithuanian Legation team in Berlin. While in Germany, Lozoraitis studied international law at the University of Berlin. In 1929 he was transferred to Rome where he became in charge in 1931. In 1932 he returned to Lithuania and worked at the State Department, becoming minister in June 1934
