Ursula Kroeber Le Guin is an American author known for her speculative fiction, including works of science fiction set in her feathered universe and the Earthsea fantasy series. It was first published in 1959, and her literary career spanned nearly sixty years, producing more than twenty novels and more than a hundred short stories, in addition to poetry and literary criticism. , children's book translations and essays. Often described as a science fiction author, Le Guin is also known as "the main voice of American letters". Le Guin herself said she wanted to be known as an "American novelist". Le Guin was born in Berkeley, California, to author Theodora Kroeber and anthropologist Alfred Louis Kroeber.
