Lieutenant Colonel William Robert Royal is an American diver in the United States Air Force and an amateur archaeologist. In the late 1950s, he and other divers found artefacts and human remains of at least seven in the Warm Spring. A partially burned log found with some human bones is radioactive carbon dating back to about 10,000 years ago. If the bone is of the same age as the log, then the bone is the oldest known evidence of human occupation in Florida at the time.
