Willie McCovey
Willie Lee McCovey, nicknamed "Stretch", "Mac" and "Willie Mac", is an American professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball as a premier basketball player from 1959 to 1980, most notably as a member of the San Francisco Giants which he played for 19 seasons. McCovey also played for the San Diego Padres and Oakland Athletics in the latter part of his MLB career. A formidable left-handed player, after retiring in 1980, McCovey is second only to Babe Ruth in his career runs in left-handed players, and is seventh overall. As of 2020, it ranks 20th on baseball's all-time home shopping list. He was a six-time All-Star champion, three-time home run champion, MVP, and was inducted into the Baseball Fame Hall in 1986 during his first qualifying year, just a man 16th such an honor, at the time. McCovey was known as an attacker on the death penalty, which caused a number of teams to divert against him.
