Nnamdi Benjamin Azikiwe, PC, commonly known as "Zik", is a Nigerian politician and political leader who served as the first Nigerian president from 1963 to 1966. Considered the driving force behind the background Independence of the nation, he became "the father of Nigerian nationalism". Born to Igbo parents in Anambra State, eastern Nigeria, in today's Zungeru, Niger, he learned to speak Hausa when he was a child. Azikiwe was then sent to live with his aunt and grandmother in Onitsha, where he learned the Igbo language. In Lagos, he came into contact with the Yoruba language; During his university studies, he came into contact with various Nigerian cultures and spoke three languages. Azikiwe traveled to the United States, where he is known as Ben Azikiwe and studied at Storer College, Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, and Howard University. He contacted the colonial government to ask them to represent Nigeria at the Los Angeles Olympics.

From 1960 until 1966, he was the Head of State of Nigeria, making him one of the most prominent characters in contemporary Nigerian nationalism. In 1979 and 1983, he ran for President but lost both times.
