Adam Smith was a Scottish economist, philosopher and moral philosopher, a pioneer of political economy and a key figure in the Scottish Enlightenment, also known as the Father of Economics or Father of Capitalism. Smith wrote two classics, Theory of Moral Emotions and An Investigation of the Nature and Cause of Wealth Nations. His second book, often abbreviated The Wealth of Nations, is considered his first modern work in economics. In his work, Adam Smith introduced his theory of absolute advantage. Smith studied social philosophy at the University of Glasgow and Balliol College in Oxford, where he was one of the first students to benefit from a scholarship co-founded by John Snell, a Scottish man. After graduating, he successfully delivered a series of public lectures at the University of Edinburgh, which prompted him to collaborate with David Hume during the Scottish Enlightenment.
