He has lived in Portland, Oregon since 2006. The group includes twin brother Ryan and younger brother Ross. Gary is the most political member of The Cribs and can often be heard in interviews criticizing the inequality and mistakes in the music industry. This is likely because he spent several years before the group's success, joining the UK's first "Ladyfest" organizing committee in London, as well as a lot of fundraisers during this period. In 2009, he underwent a surgery in the United States to remove the tumors from his vocal cords.
