Glenn Gould
Glenn Herbert Gould is a classical Canadian pianist. He is one of the best-known and best-known pianists of the 20th century, and is best known as the translator of the keyboard works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Gould's playing style is distinguished by Bach's remarkable technical skill and ability to continuously express textures. Gould rejected most of the classical romantic pianos of Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff and others, mainly in favor of Bach and Beethoven, as well as some modernist and late period composers. Although his recordings are dominated by Bach and Beethoven, Gould's recordings are varied, including works by Mozart, Haydn and Brahms; pre-Baroque composers such as Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, William Byrd and Orlando Gibbons; and 20th century composers, including Paul Hindemith, Arnold Schoenberg and Richard Strauss.
