John Chun Yah Liu is an American politician based in New York. As a member of the Democratic Party, he is a member of the New York State Senate for District 11 in Northeast Queens. Previously, he was the 43rd Comptroller of New York City from 2010 to 2013 and a member of the New York City Council from 2002 to 2009, representing District 20 of Northeast Queens. He was a member of the New York City Council and the first Asian American and one of the first two Asian American senators in New York State, as well as the first to be elected to legislative office or to the entire city. from New York. He is also running for mayor of New York in 2013. Liu currently teaches city politics and finance at Baruch College and Queens College at City University of New York and Columbia University.
