Liam Clancy is an Irish folk singer and actress from Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary. He is the youngest member of influential folk group Clancy Brothers, who is considered Ireland's first pop star. They have recorded 55 albums, sold millions of copies worldwide and performed in sold-out concerts at key venues such as Carnegie Hall and Royal Albert Hall. Liam is often considered the most powerful singer in the group. Bob Dylan considers him the greatest ballad singer of all time, while Gay Byrne describes him as one of the “Four Most Famous Irishmen in the World” at the height of The Clancy Brothers' fame. He was a central figure in the folk renaissance of the 1960s on both sides of the Atlantic. In 1976, as part of the duo Makem and Clancy, he won the first success in Ireland with the anti-war song "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda". When he died, The Irish Times said his legacy was guaranteed.
