Somkid Jatusripitak
Somkid Jatusripitak is a Thai economist, business theorist and politician. As an instructor for Philip Kotler, he commissioned books on competitiveness and taught marketing at universities in Thailand. He is the co-founder and leader of the Thai Rak Thai Party and has primary responsibility for developing the party's progressive and reforming economic and social base. After the party's electoral victory, he served as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and Minister of Commerce in Thaksin Shinawatra's government. After the coup of 2006, the government chose him as special economic envoy, supporting the “self-sufficient” economic agenda approved by the king. As one of the 111 executive members of TRT, he was banned from political activities for five years after the 2006 coup. After another military coup in 2014, he served as an adviser to the army on foreign economic relations. Since September 2014 he has been an official member of the so-called National Council for Peace and Order.
