Alex Zanardi
Alessandro Zanardi is an Italian professional racing driver and car racing player. He won the CART championship in 1997 and 1998, and had 15 victories in that series. He also raced in Formula 1 between 1991 and 1994 and again in 1999; His best results were to finish sixth at the 1993 Brazilian GP. He returned to CART in 2001, but a major accident at the American Monument in 2001 left him amputated. He returned to racing less than two years after the accident; competed in the European Passenger Car Championship 2003–2004, followed by the World Passenger Car Championship from 2005 to 2009, winning four victories. In addition to continuing to race cars, Zanardi embarked on the racing of bicycles, a form of Paralympic cycling, with the stated goal of representing Italy at the 2012 Paralympic Summer Olympics. In September in 2011, Zanardi won his first premium international hand-bike medal, a silver medal in the H4 time-test category at the UCI World Terrain Bike Racing Championship.
