Alfred Bester is an American science fiction writer, television and radio screenwriter, magazine editor, and comic book and comic book writer. He is best remembered for his science fiction work, most notably The Demolished Man, who won the first Hugo Prize in 1953. Science fiction author Harry Harrison wrote: "Alfred Bester is one of the few writers who invented modern science fiction." Not long before his death, sci-fi writers in America named Bester their ninth Grandmaster, which was inherited in 1988. Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame introduced in 2001.
