Arthur Brough is an English actor and theater founder best known for his role as senior menswear salesman Ernest Grainger on the BBC sitcom Are You Being Served? This little actor initially wanted to be a teacher, but failed to get such a job and worked in the lawyer's office. He found the job too boring and he began to take an interest in the theater. After a passion for amateur theater, Brough attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in the mid-1920s. After graduating, he joined a Shakespearean troupe where he met his fiancee, actress Elizabeth Addyman. After their marriage, they used their marriage dowry as collateral to rent the Leas Pavilion, a theater in Folkestone, Kent. They have a daughter, Joanna, who was educated at Ashford Girls' School.
