Axel Rudi Pell is a German heavy metal guitarist. He began his musical career with Steeler before leaving in 1988 for a solo career. During this time, he performed with drummers like Jörg Michael and Mike Terrana, and vocalists Charlie Huhn, Johnny Gioeli of Hardline, Jeff Scott Soto and Rob Rock. Gioeli remains the band's longest-serving singer, joining the band since 1998 on the Oceans of Time album, Gioeli's first musical appearance since the 1992 album Double Eclipse. Axel often says that his music is about a knight in shining armor who takes on various adventures. Each album continues one new mission after another, and the songs are told as separate stories. Axel's main influence on guitar work was Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple.
