Ian Gillan is an English singer and songwriter. He is the lead singer and lyricist for rock band Deep Purple and is known for his powerful vocals and wide range of vocals, especially his high-pitched banshee. Initially influenced by Elvis Presley, Gillan started and joined several local bands in the mid-1960s, and eventually joined Episode Six when their original singer left. He first achieved widespread commercial success after joining Deep Purple in 1969. He resigned from the group in June 1973, after notifying their manager for a long time. After briefly leaving the music world, he continued his musical career with solo groups Ian Gillan Band and Gillan, a year ahead as the lead singer of Black Sabbath in 1983. The following year, Deep Purple reforms and two other tracks. albums followed suit before he left in 1989. He returned to the band in 1993 and has remained their main vocal since.
