Brandon Dawayne Roy is an American basketball coach and former player. Roy played six seasons in the National Basketball Association for the Portland Trail Blazers and the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was selected sixth in NBA Draft 2006, after playing four years for the Washington Huskies. His nickname is "B-Roy", but he is also called "The Natural" by Trail Blazers' anchor Brian Wheeler. On December 10, 2011, Roy announced his retirement from basketball due to osteoarthritis, although he returned in 2012 to play five games against the Timberwolves. Born in Seattle, Roy became famous for his instant impact on Trail Blazers. Zach Randolph, then captain of the team, was transferred to the New York Knicks at the end of Roy's first season in 2006–07, paving the way for Roy to assume a leadership role in the team. This season, Roy won the NBA's Rookie of the Year award in an almost unanimous vote.
