Charles Aaron "Bubba" Smith is an American professional footballer who acted as a defensive back both in college and in the NFL before becoming an actor after retiring from the sport. Smith first rose to prominence at Michigan State University, where he twice won the All-American title on the Sparta football team. He played a key role in the 10–10 draw with Notre Dame in 1966, known as the “Game of the Century”. He is one of only six players to have withdrawn his jersey number by the show. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. First selected to the NFL in 1967, Smith played for nine years in the National Football League with the Baltimore Colts, Oakland Raiders and Houston. Oilers. He was the Colts' starting left-back for five seasons, playing in Super Bowls III and V. He was nominated for two Pro Bowls and was the first All-Pro team in 1971
