Christopher William Gerard Hughton is a former professional football player and football manager, currently coach of Nottingham Forest. Born in England, he represented the Republic of Ireland national team and in 1979 he became the first hybrid player to represent the country. After making his professional debut at the age of 20, Hughton spent most of his career playing for Tottenham Hotspur at left-back, leaving in 1990 after 13 years. After relatively brief stints with West Ham United and Brentford, Hughton retired in 1993 at the age of 34. He has made 53 appearances for the Republic of Ireland, scoring one goal and starting in all three. Ireland's match at the UEFA Euro 1988 in West Germany. . From 1993 to 2007, Hughton was a coach and later an assistant coach for Tottenham. He joined Newcastle United as a first team coach in 2008, and after their relegation he became interim manager.
