Leung Chun-ying, also known as CY Leung, is a Hong Kong Chinese politician and land surveyor. He was the third managing director of Hong Kong from 2012 to 2017. In March 2017, he was appointed vice chairman of the National Committee of the People's Political Consultative Conference of China. As a professional surveyor, Leung joined politics by joining the Hong Kong Fundamental Law Advisory Committee in 1985 and became its general secretary in 1988. In 1999, he was appointed Chairman of the Hong Kong Executive Board, a position he held until 2011, when he resigned to run for the 2012 CEO election. Considered an outsider, Leung campaigned successfully against runner-up Henry Tang, garnering 689 votes. of the Electoral Commission and with the support of the Liaison Office. When he first took power, Leung faced anti-ethics and national education protests as well as protests by the Hong Kong TV network.
