Dougie MacLean, OBE is a Scottish singer-songwriter, musician, multi-instrumental musician and record producer. Described by AllMusic as "one of Scotland's greatest singers and musicians", MacLean has performed under his own name and with several folk groups since the mid-1970s. Most popular songs MacLean's included "The Gael", which became the main theme of the 1992 film The Last of the Mohicans, and "Caledonia," from his debut album; the latter became known as the 'unofficial' national anthem of Scotland. He is also the music director for the TAG Theater Company 1993 A Scots Quair, releasing his contributions on Sunset Song LP. MacLean songs have been recorded by many artists including Ronan Keating, Paolo Nutini, Amy Macdonald, Kathy Mattea, Frankie Miller, Cara Dillon and Mary Black, who covered "Turning Away" for the 2001 soundtrack of Angel Eyes. MacLean was the subject of the 1993 BBC documentary film The Land: The Songs of Dougie MacLean.
