Frédéric Oumar Kanouté is a former French professional footballer from Mali who has played as a striker for some of the best clubs in Europe, having had his greatest success with Sevilla in La Liga. Kanouté was named African Footballer of the Year 2007, the first player born outside Africa to win the award. Kanouté started his career in Lyon, France before joining West Ham United in the Premier League in 2000. After playing for their London rival Tottenham Hotspur, Kanouté moved to Spanish club Sevilla, where he won two consecutive UEFA Cups in 2006 and 2007. has won many other European and national titles and remains the club's most prolific foreign player.
