George Chelston Springer III is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball. He played for the Houston Astros from 2014 to 2020. The Astros selected Springer in the first round of the 2011 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut in 2014, for the Astros. Springer has played primarily in right field and also spent significant time in center field. A native of New Britain, Connecticut, Springer is of Puerto Rican and Panamanian descent. Springer played college baseball at the University of Connecticut, where he was named Big East Conference Baseball Player of the Year and a First Team All-American. In 2017, Springer became an MLB All-Star, Silver Slugger Award winner, and World Series champion. He was also named the 2017 World Series Most Valuable Player, hitting a record-tying five home runs, as the Astros defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games. He was again an All Star in both 2018 and 2019.
