Henry Knox was an army officer in the Continental Army and later the United States Army, who also served as the First Secretary of War of the United States from 1789 to 1794. Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, you own and operate a bookstore there. , interested in military history and joined a local artillery company. When the American Revolutionary War broke out in 1775, he befriended General George Washington and quickly became the commander of the Continental's artillery. In this role, he accompanied Washington in most of its campaigns and was involved in some of the major war operations. He established artillery training centers and weapons manufacturing facilities which were a valuable asset to the young nation. Knox initiated the concept of the Cincinnati Association, officially the social organization and author of the document founded at the end of the war in 1783
