After starting his career in 1973, Ingram recorded 8 Top 40 hits on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts from the early 1980s to the early 1990s, as well as 13 Top 40 hits on the US Billboard. Hot R & B / Hip-Hop Songs charts. Additionally, he has 20 hits on the contemporary adult chart. He has two Hot 100 singles: the first single with R&B artist Patti Austin, the 1982 song "Baby, Come to Me" topped the American pop charts in 1983; "I Don't Have the Heart", which became her second number one in 1990, is her sole winner as a solo artist. Among these hits, he also recorded the song "Somewhere Out There" with fellow artist Linda Ronstadt for the animated film An American Tail. The songs and music videos have become giant hits.
