Jean Elizabeth Smart is an American actress. After starting her career in regional theater in the Pacific Northwest, she appeared on Broadway in 1981, as Marlene Dietrich in the biographical play Piaf. Smart was later cast as Charlene Frazier Stillfield in the CBS Designing Women sitcom, which she played between 1986 and 1991. Smart was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress in the Theater Renovation. Broadway was 2000 from The Man Who Came to Dinner and later received two Primetime Emmy Awards for her role as Lana Gardner in the NBC sitcom Frasier. She won her third Primetime Emmy Award for starring Regina Newley in the sitcom Samantha Who? She also played the role of Martha Logan in the 24-hour action television series. For her role as Floyd Gerhardt in Noah Hawley's crime film FX Fargo, she won a critically acclaimed TV Award and a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.
