Junior Malanda
Bernard Malanda-Adje, nicknamed Junior Malanda, is a Belgian professional footballer who last played for German club VfL Wolfsburg as a defensive midfielder. He was a player of the youth team of Brussels, Anderlecht and Lille, and then played in the reserve team of the team. In 2012 he joined Zulte Waregem, and was a regular player as they finished second in the 2012-13 Belgian League. He was then signed by Wolfsburg from the Bundesliga on a five-year contract, loaned him his first season before recalling him. He also represents Belgium under the age of 21. Malanda died at the age of 20 when a car he was transporting crashed in northern Germany, killing him instantly. The accident was attributed to the speed and wet conditions. More than 1,000 people attended his funeral at the Basilica of Thanh Tam in his hometown of Brussels.
