Marvin Kent Curtis is an American pilot, novelist, illustrator, yacht and teacher. Curtis served in World War I as an RAF pilot, shot, pronounced dead and held prisoner until the end of the war. Based on his war experience, he is the author of The Tired Captains, a novel revolving around a group of pilots during the First World War. Curtis belongs to the “missing generation,” Americans born in the 1890s who grew up during the First World War. He lived intermittently in Paris in the 1920s. Curtis mainly published stories of boyish adventures taking place in places where he lived: the forest of northern Minnesota and the islands off Florida.
