Meera, also known as Mirabai, is a 16th century Hindu mystic poet and follower of Krishna. She was originally called "Mihira" but in poetry she introduced her name in the modified Meera form due to the Rajasthani accent and thus became more popular under the name Meera. She is a famous holy Bhakti, especially in the Hindu tradition in North India. Mirabai was born into a Rajput royal family in Kudki, Pali district, Rajasthan, Mira then spent her childhood in Merta, Rajasthan. She is mentioned in the Bhaktamal, confirming that she was widely known and loved in the culture of the Bhakti movement around 1600 C.E. Most of Meera's legends mention her fearlessness despite social and family conventions, her devotion to Lord Krishna, she regards Lord Krishna as her husband and is abused by her husband because of his devotion. It is the subject of many folk tales and hagiographic legends, inconsistent or presenting various details.
