Meghna Gulzar is an Indian screenwriter, director and producer. The daughter of poet and lyricist Gulzar and former actress Raakhee, she was born on December 13, 1973 in Maharashtra, Mumbai. After debuting as a screenwriter with her father's director Hu Ziyi in 1999, Meghna directed her first film, the drama Filhaal ..., although it had no public success during that decade. After an eight-year vacation, she led the critically acclaimed Talvar, who earned her Best Director nomination despite her box office underperformance. Her first profitable directing venture was in 2018, when she directed the patriotic horror film Raazi, which went on to become one of India's highest-grossing films. She won the Best Director award at Filmfare for her work in the same film. This made her a director and the next Meghna who directed the biographical film Chhapaak.
