She was the first Olympic champion in Spanish swimming history and is widely regarded as the greatest Spanish swimmer of all time. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, she became the Olympic champion in the 200 meter butterfly event and also won the bronze medal in the individual 400 meter event.
