Miroslav Kraljević was an active Croatian painter, printer and sculptor in the early 20th century and one of the founders of modern art in Croatia. Kraljević studied painting in Vienna and Munich at the prestigious Academy of Arts with Oskar Herman, Vladimir Becić and Josip Račić. This group of Croatian artists was then known as the Munich Circle, known for their influence on modern art in Croatia. After Munich, Kraljević spent time at his family home in Požega, then in Paris, where he created his best work. He died in Zagreb in April 1913, at the age of 27, of tuberculosis. Miroslav Kraljević has drawn in many different styles, including the School of Impressionism, the School of Pointillism and the School of Expression. He is also known for his drawings of odd or erotic characters, in the style of Aubrey Beardsley and his sculptures. Working in a variety of media, he uses almost all drawing and drawing techniques in his portraits, characters, still lifes, animals and landscapes.
