Rachel Joy Scott is an American student and the first death of the Columbine High School massacre, in which 11 other students and a teacher were also murdered by Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, who subsequently committed suicide. Scott's belief in Christianity and the controversial circumstances of his death earned him recognition from Protestant groups as a martyr. She was then the subject and co-author of several books and the inspiration for Rachel's Challenge, the most popular international educational outreach and aggregation program in the United States. The purpose of the Rachel Challenge is to uphold Scott's values, based on his life, his journal and the text of a two-page essay, written a month before his death, titled My Morality; My code of life. This essay supports his belief in compassion as "the greatest form of love a man can offer."
