Raila Amolo Odinga is a Kenyan politician who served as Leader of the opposition from 2013 to January 14, 2018. He was a Member of Parliament of Langata from 1992 to 2013. He served in the Cabinet Kenya as Minister of Energy from 2001 to 2002, and Minister of Roads, Public Works and Housing from 2003 to 2005. Odinga was appointed Senior Representative for Infrastructure Development at the Commission of the African Union in 2018. He was the main opposition candidate in the 2007 presidential election, running for the incumbent President. Mwai Kibaki. In the presidential election that followed five years later, he was second to Uhuru Kenyatta, earning 5,340,546 votes, representing 43.28% of the total. He ran another presidential race in August 2017 against Uhuru Kenyatta and lost after the voter president declared Uhuru Kenyatta the winner with 54% of the vote versus 43% for Odinga.
