Richard Frederick Heck is an American chemist best known for the discovery and development of the Heck reaction, using palladium to catalyze organic chemical reactions that combine aryl halides with alkenes. Naproxen, analgesic, is an example of a compound prepared industrially using the Heck reaction. For his work on the palladium catalyst coupling reaction and organic fusion, Heck was awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, along with Japanese chemists Ei-ichi Negishi and Akira Suzuki.
