Robert Nason Beck is an American scientist and a pioneer in the field of nuclear medicine. He was the first to propose, in 1961, to use the radioactive isotope technetium-99m to detect diseases with a Single Emission Computing Scanner, a technique used estimated 20 million times per year worldwide. Beck also helped develop collimators to refine images produced by gamma ray scanners, and is called "Mr. Collimator ”of colleagues.
