Ronald Vernie Dellums is an American politician who served as Mayor of Oakland from 2007 to 2011. Prior to that, he served thirteen terms as a member of the US House of Representatives from the National Area. California's 9th Society, from 1971 to 1998, after which he worked as a lobbyist in Washington, DC Dellums was born into an organized labor family and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. States prior to serving on the Berkeley City Council, in California. He was the first African-American elected to Congress from Northern California and the first openly non-incumbent socialist congressional candidate after World War II. His policies earned him a place on President Nixon's enemy list. During his congressional career, he fought the Project MX Missile and opposed the expansion of the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber program.
