Ronald Dickson Woodroof is an American who started what is known as the Dallas Buyer Club in March 1988, one of the AIDS buyers clubs that emerged at the time. After being infected with the human immunodeficiency virus in 1985, he formed the group as part of an effort to find and distribute anti-HIV drugs at a time when the disease was not well understood. He sued the United States Food and Drug Administration for banning T peptide, a drug he is currently taking. Woodroof's final years became the basis for the 2013 Dallas Buyers Club movie
