Roy Campanella
Roy Campanella, nicknamed "Campy", is an American baseball player who is primarily a catcher. The Philadelphia native played in the Black League and the Mexican League for nine years before competing in minor tournaments in 1946. He made his 1948 Major League Baseball debut for the Brooklyn Dodgers, which he played until 'in 1957. His competitive career came to an end when he was paralyzed in a car accident in January 1958. He is considered one of the greatest catchers in the history of the game. After retiring as a player by accident, Campanella held positions in scouting and public relations with the Dodgers. He was inducted into Baseball Fame Hall in 1969 .
