Ruth Sando Fahnbulleh Perry is a Liberian politician. She was Acting President of the State Council of Liberia from September 3, 1996 to August 2, 1997, after the first Liberian civil war. After 11 peaceful international attempts from 1990 to 1995 to end the civil war in Liberia, these efforts appear to have been successful. The Interim State Council includes a civilian president, as well as members of the warring factions: Charles Taylor, leader of the Liberia Liberation Movement for Democracy-K Alhaji Kromah, head of the Peace Council. Vase Liberia George Boley, and two other civilians. Perry is known as the first woman president of Liberia and contemporary Africa in general. Liberia also made a difference by electing Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as Africa's first elected modern day leader.
