Sarah Catharine Paulson is an American actress. She has received numerous awards, including the Primetime Emmy and the Golden Globe Awards. In 2017, Time magazine named her one of the world's 100 most influential people in the artist category. Born in Tampa, Florida, Paulson grew up there and then in New York after her parents divorced. She began her acting career after graduating from high school in theater productions in New York City before starring in the shorts American Gothic and Jack & Jill. She later appeared in comedies such as What Women Want and Down with Love, and dramas like Path to War and The Notorious Bettie Page. From 2006 to 2007, she played Harriet Hayes in the NBC comedy-drama Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, for which she received her first Golden Globe nomination. In 2008, Paulson played Ellen Dolan in the black superhero film The Spirit.
