Polley was first noticed as a child actress as Ramona Quimby in the Ramona TV series, based on the books by Beverly Cleary. This eventually led to her playing the role of Sara Stanley in the Canadian TV series Road to Avonlea. She has appeared in many movies including Exotica, The Sweet Herfter, Guinevere, Go, The Weight of Water, My Life Without Me, Dawn of the Dead, Splice and Mr. Nobody. Polley debuted feature film director with Away from Her, for which she won the Canada Screen's Best Director Award and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. Polley's second film, Take This Waltz, was premiered at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. His first documentary, The Story We Tell, received a $ 100,000 Toronto Film Critics Association of the Year award for best Canadian film of the year.
