Stephen Vincent Benét is an American poet, writer and novelist. He is best known for his American Civil War narrative poem, John Brown's Body, for which he received the Pulitzer Prize for poetry, and the short stories "The Devil and Daniel Webster" and "By the Waters of Babylon". In 2009, the American Library chose the story "The King of Cats" to include a flashback of the two-century American Fantastic Tales edited by Peter Straub.
